Warning triangles: how to set them out

A warning triangle gives other drivers something bright to notice. Setting them out takes a few quick steps.

Here is a checklist you can read before you ever need it.

Know your set

The Reflective Warning Triangle Set holds two fold-out triangles. Each is about 17 in per side when open.

Practice opening one at home.

Check local rules

Where and how far to place triangles depends on where you are. Your state or your employer will give the rules.

We do not give legal advice. This gear does not replace any equipment, training or paperwork your work or local rules require.

A simple order

Wait for traffic, step out carefully, open the triangles and place them as your local rules say.

Keep your vest on and your light with you.

Pack it ready

Keep the set within reach, not buried under other gear.

Our Roadside Driver Kit Bundle puts triangles, vests and a flashlight into one order.

Practice at home

Take the set into the driveway and practice opening and folding the triangles until it feels easy. Time yourself if you like. Put each triangle back in its place so the next person can find them.

The set is $41 and has two triangles. Wipe the panels with a soft cloth, and keep the set in a spot you can reach. Shipping is free on orders of $75 or more, or $6.95 under that.

Questions and answers

How many triangles do I need?

That depends on your local rules. Our set holds two.

Do the triangles light up?

No. They have reflective panels that catch light from a car's headlights.
